National Spaghetti Day!
Who doesn’t love Italian food?!? Such a comforting homey hug! My husband’s ancestors are from Bari, Italy, and it is on our travel list to visit and walk the same streets his family did long ago and maybe even find some kinship.
White Spaghetti Recipe from my sister, Laurayne:
2 lbs 97% to 3% ground beef
1 onion chopped
2 minced cloves of garlic
1 bell pepper chopped
1 14 oz can of Italian-styled stewed tomatoes
4 cups shredded Colby Jack and cheddar cheese
pasta of your choice (one package of spaghetti pasta is what she uses)
Dash of ‘dis and ‘dat:
garlic power to taste
Italians seasoning to taste
Bring stock pot of water with lots of salt added (or you can use chicken broth) to boil for the pasta. When water boils, add your pasta and cook until al dente!
While your pasta is cooking, saute your chopped onion and bell pepper for 5 minutes, then add minced garlic for 2 to 3 minutes (until fragrant), add your beef to skillet to begin browning your beef, and your seasonings listed above to-taste. Once your meat is browned, add the stewed tomatoes, the cheeses, and your drained pasta all at once. Reserve a bit of the pasta water to use for thinning if needed. Enjoy!!
There are many different pasta dishes and most of them differ because of the sauces. My sister has a wonderful recipe that she makes and calls it White Spaghetti! I love it when she makes it. I just can’t seem to make it come out like she does it. Add some cheesy garlic bread — mauh! Perfecto!
Italy is beautiful! We look forward to returning. If you haven’t been, put it on your bucket list! The quaint little villages, yes, are so picturesque! Memories of the hotels and farms we stayed at stay with us to this day.
